PRINCETON, N.J.— 2022 年 3 月 29 日 — Certara, Inc, a global leader in biosimulation, and Pharmacometrics Africa NPC, today announced a partnership with the University of Cape Town (UCT) to support its fellowship program for doctoral-level scientists from Africa. The Fellowship program builds scientific and leadership capability in the region by enhancing the skills of scientists and facilitating knowledge transfer to wider scientific communities.

The Applied Pharmacometrics Training Fellowship in Africa was launched in November of 2021 by Certara, Pharmacometrics Africa and CP+ Associates. Its first cohort of sixteen students began their fellowship in January. In this new partnership, University of Cape Town will provide Fellowship graduates with academic certification at UCT that can be applied toward their careers. The partners will also collaborate to recruit scientists and sustain the Fellowship program. Furthermore, Certara is providing subsidized biosimulation software training to scientists based in Africa at the World Conference on Pharmacometrics (WCoP) this week.
“This partnership paves the path for our scientists to push the boundaries of their expertise through a rigorous academic programme. The Fellowship offers practical, hands-on learning which will facilitate the acquiring of skills and knowledge for application to real world situations,” said Prof Lionel Green-Thompson, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at University of Cape Town. “We are excited to collaborate with Certara and Pharmacometrics Africa to prepare scientists to advance drug development through up-to-date technologies. The programme has the potential to improve lives regionally and globally.”
“With this timely added recognition of the world-class clinical pharmacology scientists in Africa, I am expecting that the international research community will see this as further evidence that clinical trial data produced locally can also be analyzed locally using state-of-the-art methodologies,” concluded Colin Pillai, Ph.D., CEO of Pharmacometrics Africa and co-chair of WCoP.
