SEND Explorer® is a validated, web-based application designed by scientists to provide advanced viewing, data summarization, and visualization capabilities for nonclinical study data. SEND Explorer can consume data in SEND 3.0/3.1 format, in a variety of non-SEND data formats (including interim study formats), and via direct connection to a data collection system. SEND Explorer Software empowers scientists to interact with their study data, visualize treatment and/or time-related patterns, and communicate relationships with other scientists. SEND Explorer allows organizations leverage their investment in creating SEND datasets for regulatory submissions by making study data and associated visualizations readily accessible to scientists for internal decision-making.

Our latest release includes an update of our coding and visualization technologies along with new features that were developed with significant input from the SEND Explorer user community.

Single-Study Enhancements

  • Filter using advanced (Boolean) operators in single-study data grids and summary views
  • Display sparkline visualizations and statistical flags for Summary by Group view
  • Support for ad hoc Trial Summary fields
  • Calculate and plot % change from baseline for the cross-over study design
  • Flag timepoints on which dosing occurred in line graph visualizations
  • Toggle between original and standardized findings in Severity Heatmap and CTD display
  • Support additional options for customization of single-study visualizations

Multi-Study Enhancements

  • Support hierarchical x-axis in multi-study visualizations, greatly expanding the flexibility of these plots

SEND Explorer provides an “easy-button” which scientists can use to generate single-study plots from nonclinical study data to reveal dose-response and timecourse patterns including:

  • Summary View for Numeric Data to visualize patterns and trends in numeric data with summary statistics, scatterplot, outof-concurrent-control range indicator, and % control mean calculations
  • Summary View thumbnail plots to display distribution of subject data across groups
  • Line Graphs to visualize patterns of group means and individual subject data over time
  • Clinical Observations Timecourse to reveal dose-related patterns and trends in clinical observations over the course of a study
  • Severity Heatmap to visualize patterns and trends in both incidence and severity of pathology findings
  • Cross-Domain Subject View to put a subject’s data into perspective as compared to its own group and control group, on a single day or over time

There are 4 different options for SEND Explorer software.

SEND Explorer: Single-study functionality, ability to review and query SEND data, generate visualizations to identify trends; and review all data for a single subject to identify patterns across endpoints of interest, at a given time point and over time

SEND Explorer Plus: Additionally includes a SEND-optimized database to extend functionality to the multi-study environment and provides powerful yet intuitive cross-study querying capabilities and multi-study visualizations

SEND Explorer Gold: Additionally includes a data warehouse infrastructure which allows organizations to combine legacy and other non-SEND data sources with their SEND data

SEND Explorer Warehouse: Additionally supports custom domains and provides term reconciliation functionality, record override and the ability to create and populate ad hoc study metadata fields for querying data and filtering visualizations

Mike Ward Project Lead, SEND Explorer

Mike Ward is the technical project lead for SEND Explorer. Prior to joining INDS, now part of Certara, Mike created HyperTerminal, the telnet application distributed in Microsoft’s Windows 95 Operating System. Additional experience includes being the open source author of VSColorOutput, a top-ten plugin for Microsoft’s Visual Studio IDE. Mike has over 40 years of experience on numerous platform technologies and received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from The University of Michigan.
